Research conducted by the travel search engine ‘WayAway’ shows a majority of Americans would consider options like flying standing up, having no access to a bathroom or taking five stopovers…all to gain cheaper flight.
With flight prices skyrocketing travelers are keener than ever for discounts this Black Friday. To find out just how far travellers are prepared to go the team at travel search engine WayAway surveyed Americans about what level of inconvenience they’d put up with for a flight discount: Whilst just 8.6%* would fly standing up for a 5-10% discount, surprisingly 30.8% would do so for a 20-30% discount, and 31.6% for a 50% discount – in fact only 29% would never consider this option.
Similarly, only 8.7% would fly with no access to a bathroom for several hours for a 5-10% discount, but 23.1% would do so for a 20-30% discount, and 29.2% for a 50% discount – with only 39% saying they would never consider this option. Finally, just 4.6% would consider five stop overs for a 5-10% discount, but 18% would for a 20-30% discount, and 35.4% for a 50% discount – whilst only 42% would never consider this option.
WayAway spokesperson Janis Dzenis comments: “We were quite surprised by how many Americans are ready to put up with some really serious inconveniences to get discounted prices – and can’t help but wonder if that reflects the high prices of tickets now or if this was always the case?
“But there are easier options to save money on flights! Firstly be flexible with dates, choosing a weekday over a weekend could be a key. Secondly book early, especially when choosing the most-in-demand destinations. And finally, subscribe to a paid-membership plan like our ‘WayAway Plus’ to get cashback reimbursement of up to 7 percent for all travel deals!”
*The data for this survey was collected using the SurveyMonkey Audience consumer panel. In total, 511 Americans over the age of 18 were polled. Of those surveyed, 49.02% were female and 50.98% were male. The age breakdown of participants included in this survey was 38.04% in the range 18-29, 50.20% in the range 30-44, 11.76% in the range 45-60.
